Penelope Summers, Ph.D.
Associate Professor, Journalism
Dr. Summers teaches Law of Mass Communication and Ethics and Media. She has taught at NKU since 1982.

Dr. Summers has been a professional newspaper reporter and editor, radio reporter and news documentary producer, television documentary and public affairs writer and associate television producer, and she has worked professionally in advertising and public relations. Her professional work has received regional, national, and international acclaim. In addition to media professional organizations, she is active in the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (AEJMC) holding various positions including service on the Council of Divisions and two terms as head of the Law Division. She is also certified to teach professional ethics as part of Continuing Professional Education programs.

With a background in journalism, psychology, and law, Dr. Summers' research interests include human information processing and First Amendment law. Her doctorate is from the University of Kentucky.
