The Department of Communication offers the following programs of study:
Communication Studies
The Communication Studies program focuses on the study of human communication in all its many facets. Students gain the knowledge and skills to help them succeed in a variety of professions including training/ development, sales, management, human resources, law, ministry, teaching, business and politics.
Electronic Media and Broadcasting
Electronic Media and Broadcasting majors learn the theory and practice of creating a wide range of audio and video productions. Areas of interest range from broadcast journalism to digital cinema to documentary production to media sales and management to radio production and more. Successful students are prepared for jobs in the ever-evolving world of creative and effective media storytelling.
Journalism
The Journalism program is designed to help students develop the writing skills and critical-thinking ability they will need to succeed in today's rapidly changing media industry. Students who complete the program are prepared to take jobs in reporting, editing or advertising or to pursue advanced study in graduate or professional schools.
Media Informatics
The Media Informatics (MIN) program combines interactive 2D and 3D training, web design and non-fiction and fiction storytelling to equip students with a skill set for the digital workforce. Students will work on projects with many colleges across the campus, giving them a truly diverse and rich skill set.
Public Relations
Public Relations students take courses in Electronic Media and Broadcasting, Journalism, Public Relations and Speech Communication. The program is focused, but students tailor a program to suit their individual interests and career goals. Public relations professionals work in promotions, public affairs, event planning, public speaking, campaign management and media relations.
Master of Arts in Communication
Our graduate program is designed for students who want to develop an advanced understanding of communication theories and applications through an intensive educational experience in small and highly participative classes and in one-on-one work with faculty members.

Minor in Popular Culture
The Department of Communication offers a specialized minor in Popular Culture Studies. Students who select this minor explore their cultural environment, examining artifacts and events relating to their specific interests.
