Journalism

Journalism's roles as a watchdog on government and recorder of history have inspired many to consider it a calling as much as a profession. If you're interested in carrying on the tradition, NKU offers you an outstanding program.

We uphold and promote the highest standards of journalistic integrity. An NKU Bachelor of Arts in journalism will give you a solid understanding of legal and ethical issues in the profession, and the skills to seek out, organize, and effectively present information. You will also be encouraged to broaden your studies into other areas that may interest you and help you as a journalist. For example, many students majoring in journalism choose to minor in: 

• Broadcasting
• Business
• Economics
• Education
• Politics

Internships are encouraged for journalism majors, and many of our students find opportunities in the Greater Cincinnati area. Through our department or the Career Development Center, you can find or create internship opportunities with dozens of companies that routinely come looking for NKU interns. Some of them include:

• Community Publications, Inc.
• Inspire Magazine
• The Cincinnati Enquirer
• The Cincinnati Herald
• WDBZ, WKRC, WLWT, WVXU or dozens of other TV and radio stations

You may even find yourself employed by the very business you interned with.

Your journalism studies will be enhanced by research opportunities and collegial relationships with professionally active faculty.

Hands-on, practical publishing opportunities, such as with the award-winning student newspaper The Northerner, will help you build a portfolio of work to impress potential employers. That's what makes an NKU journalism degree your highway to a highly gratifying career.
