College of Informatics

Media Informatics Courses

This program focuses on the creation of content and messages distributed through technologically mediated communication channels. Content defines not only the nature and effectiveness of the communication process, but also the applications that are supported in that process. Content creation encompasses a wide area and includes skills such as design, writing, programming, production and database integration.

The student must develop skills to create these messages across a multitude of distribution channels and media platforms. In addition, students must develop organizational competencies that area required by high technology employers, including the ability to deal with ever-changing technology. The required core courses provide broad exposure to the technical skills as well as providing a foundation in the softer-skill organizational competencies. All courses are associated with specific learning outcomes and outcome assessment methodologies.

Elective Courses

Students are required to take 12 hours in elective courses. The electives may be grouped into three general categories: programming and databases, multimedia, and applications.

The program provides these recommended groupings of electives, but students have the alternative of developing an individualized program. This also allows for flexibility for the program relative to changes in technology and the marketplace. Students may not count elective courses toward the minor degree requirement.
