Woosung Kim, Ph.D.
Instructor
Woosung Kim has been working on the areas of patterns recognition and human language processing for almost 20 years. He first studied optical character recognition which recognizes characters from scanned document images. Then, he moved on to automatic speech recognition focusing on statistical language modeling. After receiving his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University in 2004, he moved to Ohio and started working with Convergys Co. in Cincinnati. At Convergys, he has been trying to solve many interesting real world problems. For instance, how do we find useful knowledge---such as why sales are going down or how we can improve customer satisfaction---out of billions of customer interaction logs? Certainly, such questions require more than a trivial answer and are critical for a success in business.

Other than his work and playing with his two sons, Albert and Daehyun, he enjoys swimming and working out at a gym. Also, he recently started golfing and loves it, although he likes hitting golf balls in a driving range better than playing a game on a golf course. This year, 2009, is his first year working at NKU.
