Hongmei Wang, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor
Hongmei Wang, an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science, started with NKU in 2007. Her teaching focuses on Geographical Information Systems (GIS), and is developing several new GIS courses, like Spatial Database and GIS Programming Basics.
Hongmei considers teaching an interesting and rewarding experience. She also believes that teaching is an excellent opportunity to complete one's knowledge in one field, and helps to organize one's knowledge in a systematic way. She likes to teach at NKU because classes are small, giving her an opportunity for more interaction with students.
With 10 years of research experiences related to GIS development and applications, Hongmei primarily focuses her research on GIS, including GIS interface (either GUI or speech and/or gesture enabled natural multimodal interface) development, uncertainties handling in human-GIS communication, spatial analysis with using GIS, system evaluation, and applications of GIS and Remote Sensing techniques for natural resource assessment.
She has a bachelor's degree in geosciences from Changchun College of Geology, People's Republic of China, a master's degree in remote sensing & cartography from Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a Ph. D. in information sciences & technology from the Pennsylvania State University.
In her free time, she enjoys playing with her lovely baby, watching sports like the NBA, table tennis, and tennis, and reading news and stories.
