Rachel Lyon serves as the Artist in Residence for the Communication Department in the College of Informatics at NKU. She was Chair of the Department for the 2011-2012 year. Previously, Ms. Lyon served as Chair of Cinema and Media Arts at SMU, and has taught at Queens College, Bentley University. Lyon is an Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker, whose latest film, "Etruscan Odyssey" is a journey into world of the ancient pre-Roman art and culture, the Etruscans. Lyon has focused her work on worldwide issues concerning media and human rights, including, "Juror Number Six" and the acclaimed, "Race to Execution" for PBS's Independent Lens. Professor Lyon has created over 65 documentaries including, "Mr. Dreyfuss Goes to Washington" for the History Channel, "Shadow Over Tibet" and Emmy Award winning "Men Who Molest", for PBS's Frontline. Lyon's films have also appeared on ABC, NBC, CNN, National Geographic, BBC and the Discovery Networks, among others.
Professor Lyon's three feature films include "Tell Me A Riddle", based on Tillie Olsen's novella, directed by Oscar winner, Lee Grant, starring Academy Award winners Melvyn Douglas and Lila Kedrova; the restoration of "Orson Welles' Othello"; and "Thousand Pieces of Gold" based on the historical novel, starring Academy Award winner Chris Cooper and Rosalind Chao. Ms. Lyon co-founded Women in Film in San Francisco and Chicago, serving on the Board in four cities.
