Popular Culture (minor)

The minor in Popular Culture offers you an opportunity to to explore your cultural environment by examining aspects of cultural artifacts and events relating to your specific interest.

Popular culture is the major cultural environment in which humans have lived throughout history. Consequently, our cultural heritage and our present cultural identity are intimately related to popular culture. The popular environment both shapes and is shaped by all of us.

Some aspects of "cultural environment" include: 

  • entertainment
  • fashion
  • food
  • holidays and celebration
  • the media
  • music
  • patterns of consumption
  • sports
  • technologies

Through careful consultation with the program director, you identify your topic of concentration or theme and select 21 credit hours of courses from a variety of offerings from across the university.
